Highlighted Features for Aloha Point-of-Sale
QUICK COMBO ENHANCEMENTS
We made several enhancements to the Quick Combo feature, all of which make configuring and ordering quick combos faster, and more flexible:
- We redesigned the dialog box to a tabular format, to simplify how you configure quick combos.
- You can now assign up to 45 quick combo components, which helps reduce the number of duplicate quick combos to maintain!
- You can order a mixture of items from different pricing levels, and have the system price the combo accordingly.
- You can now define item surcharges for Regular, Upsell #1, and Upsell #2 quick combo levels separately, as well as autocalculate quick combo size surcharges based on the item price difference between quick combo levels.
CUSTOMIZE TABLE SERVICE WITH SUBMENU PANELS AND SMART ITEMS
The Aloha Table Service product offers two new features to make the order entry process more efficient:
- Include Smart Select and Smart Items in Table Service The Smart Select and Smart Item button functions are now offered in the Table Service product. Smart Select and Smart Items work in conjunction with each other to support items sold in various sizes or portions, without having to add an individual item to the panel, for each combination of item and size. The Smart Select button function defines the assorted sizes in the group, while the Smart Item button function specifies the items associated with each button. This enables you to create FOH order entry screen panels that are smaller, and have less buttons.
- Create Custom Submenu Panels Table Service uses hardcoded panels, known as ‘classic’ panels, to maintain familiarity and a consistent screen flow for employees using the system. As of v6.4, you can customize the standard submenu area of the FOH order entry screen with special Submenu panels, to accommodate new features, such as Smart Select and Smart Item buttons, bitmaps, and the use of background colors on Submenu panels. You create Submenu panels in Panel Editor, and then replace the standard or ‘classic’ panel, with the customized Submenu panel, as needed.
MANAGE TIPSHARE POOLS WITH TIPSHARE DISTRIBUTION
Tipsharing is common in a table service environment where the support staff, who do not receive tips directly from guests, are compensated for their work. You can now configure Tipshare Distribution to accommodate the need of every restaurant operator for distributing, tracking, declaring, and reporting tipshare.
SUPPORT FOR DEFERRED, INCLUDED, AND EXEMPT MODIFIERS
Aloha Quick Service includes item modifier enhancements that improve the order entry process for both cashier and guest:
- Configure and Display Included Modifiers for a Menu Item Included Modifiers indicate the additional items that come with a menu item. This feature serves as a great training aid when employees need to know the toppings, fixings, or other items included with a menu item, by default. You can assign a bitmap graphic to a modifier, as an on-screen indicator, to quickly see the included modifiers for a menu item. Furthermore, you can use included modifiers on both the FOH ‘classic’ and systemgenerated modifier screens, as well as the pizza screen.
- Support Deferred Modifiers You can configure deferred modifiers in Aloha Quick Service so employees can obtain modifier choices after the guest gives their order. This promotes a conversational style of ordering because the customer can place their entire order without interruption.
- Exempt Specific Modifier Groups by Order Entry Queue You can now indicate if a required modifier group, such as ‘Drink Flavor,’ appears during the order entry process for a certain order entry queue. For example, the ‘Drink Flavor’ modifier group may be necessary for the drive–thru lane; but, not required in the dining area order queue, if customers fill their own drinks.
SECURITY AND COMPLIANCE ENHANCEMENTS
Keeping customer transactions safe and secure is always a top priority for Aloha products, as reflected by the many security and compliance features included in the v6.4 release:
- Disable Alt+X Login in Aloha Manager and EDC This change removes the ability to use the “Alt+X Login” to access Aloha Manager for Quick Service and Table Service, as well as Aloha EDC, except on systems running super keys. Our recommendation is to control access to Aloha Manager and Aloha EDC using Back Office Security Levels:
- Configure Aloha EDC to Use Boodrv Share You can now configure Aloha EDC to use an alternate path, outside the Bootdrv share, to prevent network access to the EDC files. Accomplish this by creating a new environment variable (EDCProcPath) and moving the contents of the current EDC folder to the new location. This change moves potentially at-risk data to a location much less likely to be accessed during a data compromise.
- EDC Logging Aloha EDC now captures EDC logging activity in Debout.edc, including all program activities, such as:
- New DelTrack Utility for Aloha v5.3.1 and Later The v6.4 Aloha DelTrack utility now removes all encrypted sensitive payment card information that is stored in the Trans.log and settlement files after authorization. This includes card numbers, cardholder names, expiration dates, the AVS code and security codes. Previous DelTrack versions only removed the track data, if it was present. The new version of Aloha DelTrack also provides a user interface that builds a command line for you, which you can then run from within Winhook as part of the End-of-Day process, or from any batch file you create. In this version, you can specify the number of recent days to ignore, allowing you to keep a reasonable amount of data on hand.
- Automatically Implement PCI/FACTA Settings with Upgrade The provisions of the U.S. Federal law known as FACTA (Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act) contain two requirements that impact the configuration of an Aloha site. One provision requires that a payment card expiration date must not appear in print on receipts, vouchers, or other printed chits in the restaurant. The other requirement specifies that no more than the last five digits of a payment card number may be exposed in print. Upon upgrade to Aloha v6.4 and later, the affected settings change automatically to the compliant state for U.S. installations.
EMPLOYEE BREAKS
The Employee Breaks feature allows you to configure break options according to legislation set forth by your state. You can build break rules with no restrictions, or as strict as you need, using the multiple levels of configurable rules. The following is only a sample of the tools available to you when configuring employee breaks:
- Configure the break rule to either pay or not pay an employee for a break.
- Configure the system to allow a manager to remove a break; indicating the employee never went on the break, in the case where an employee returns from their break early.
- Provide employees the opportunity to waive their meal period breaks with waive break messages.
- Use the FOH Break Alert Report to aide managers in determining when their employees are due to take their breaks in accordance with the system configuration.
- Configure the system to allow a manager to convert an unpaid break to paid, in the case where an employee returns from their break early.
